Community College and Cal State Faculty Unite for Adrin Nazarian for State Assembly
The California Faculty Association (CFA), the Los Angeles College Faculty Guild – American Federation of Teachers, Local 1521 (AFT 1521), and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC) have all announced their endorsement of Adrin Nazarian, candidate for the California State 46th Assembly District.
The California Faculty Association represents 23,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches who teach in the California State University system.
“CFA is proud to support Adrin Nazarian because he understands the value of a strong public education; he has worked diligently to preserve opportunities for our students, faculty and staff.” said Lillian Taiz, President, California Faculty Association.
FACCC is a statewide professional membership association that provides focused representation for the community college faculty members at all 112 campuses across California to promote funding, academic freedom and retirement benefits.
“The Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC) Political Action Committee endorses Adrin Nazarian’s election for the State Assembly,” noted FACCC’s Executive Director Jonathan Lightman. “Adrin supports community colleges as institutions of affordable, accessible higher education, and will work to restore both their funding and standing in the State Capitol.”
The Los Angeles College Faculty Guild is the largest local union of community college faculty in California, representing full-time and adjunct faculty working in the nine community colleges within the Los Angeles Community College District.
“I am honored to have the support of the California Faculty Association, the Los Angeles College Faculty Guild, and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges,” said Adrin. “These organizations have done a great job to preserve opportunities for faculty and staff in higher education, and allow them to teach our students with the proper resources.”
CFA, AFT 1521 and FACCC join the LA County Federation of Labor, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California, UNITE HERE, Local 11, and the California Teamsters Public Affairs Council in a growing coalition of labor groups that have endorsed Adrin Nazarian for the 46th Assembly District.
Adrin Nazarian currently serves as chief-of-staff to L.A. City Councilmember Paul Krekorian. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley, attending high school there before receiving his degree in Economics from UCLA in 1996. He has been a participant in the CORO Fellowship in Public Affairs, a board member of the East Valley YMCA and YWCA, and a founding member of the Generation Next Mentorship program.
